Over one hundred years ago, a German immigrant began manufacturing brass parts and battery terminals for automobile and streetcar manufacturers. While Robert K. Perlick certainly enjoyed success in those industries, it wasn’t until the days of prohibition that Perlick and his brothers saw an opportunity that would change an entire industry.

With only non-alcoholic beer available outside of illegal speakeasies, the Perlicks were looking beyond the days of prohibition. During that period of time, they began the process of designing and manufacturing brass beer taps and quickly perfected it. Once the ban on alcohol sales was lifted, Perlick and his brothers were well ahead of the shortsighted competition. They went on to perfect the first connection that allowed beer to be pumped directly from the keg, the “Pony Pump.”

Without resting, Perlick proceeded to set his sights on solving the problem of dispensing large quantities of beer in areas such as concert venues and sports stadiums during the 1950s. That work culminated in the 1990s, when Perlick was “tapped” to engineer and install nearly six miles of beer lines in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The Milwaukee-based company is a true example of American ingenuity and, over the past century, has developed countless refrigeration solutions for both commercial and residential applications.
