With the new year right around the corner, we continue to look ahead with anticipation. As with any industry, things are constantly in flux and are ever changing. Fortunately for us (and you), our team of appliance experts have a close eye on the latest trends for all kitchen appliances. Equipped with this information, we are working diligently to ensure our customer base is always informed.
With current trends in mind, we have set out to create a detailed guide of what 2022 will bring to our exciting industry. We have also outlined what clients can expect to see online and in our showrooms over the first quarter of 2022.
TECHNOLOGY
Technological advancements seem to constantly be approaching us from all angles. From the newest smartphones, computers, gadgets, and cars, it can be daunting to keep up with the latest technology. The specialty appliance market is no different, and is one that is constantly keeping us on our toes – and that’s just the way we like it.
As we continue to learn more about upcoming advancements in the realm of luxury appliances, here’s a few improvements we believe are earmarked to make the biggest impact this year.
Bluetooth Connected Appliances
It’s time to do away with pre-heating and outdated timers and get your appliances synced up through technology that has already changed our lives in so many ways. The utilization of Bluetooth technology, as it pertains to appliances, is exploding across a variety of makes and models.
One popular model that we offer is the Monogram Built-In Single Wall Oven with Wi-Fi Connect. This electric oven not only possesses an elegant French Door design, but also maintains groundbreaking features such as its Scan to Cook option. Utilizing this technology, consumers are able to scan packaged foods and have the oven prepare the dish exactly as its original creator intended.
Allowing multiple devices to work as one unit, Bluetooth technology allows your kitchen to operate in a way we could never have expected.
Take the example of a Bluetooth-enabled hood system working in tandem with stove top burners or even your oven. The technology instantly alerts the ventilation system to engage once a particular temperature or humidity level is obtained. Not only is this convenient, but it improves the safety of your kitchen and lends a peace of mind.
Zephyr is the preferred choice among clients looking to coordinate multiple appliances through Bluetooth technology. One leading example of this is Zephyr Wall Mount Range Hood. However, Zephyr also offers range hoods that make additional contributions to their status as luxury appliances. Zephyr’s Roma Groove Wall Mount Range Hood provides buyers with the opportunity to listen to their favorite music or podcasts while preparing meals.
Wi-Fi Connectivity

Operating like the Bluetooth technology, wireless technology goes a step further. By once again having all of your appliances working wirelessly to communicate with one another, this technology also allows for outside control. By simply using a smartphone, one can manage their kitchen with ease from a remote location. Advantages that this technology offers are the ability to adjust the lighting in your kitchen, check on the temperature in your refrigerator, pre-heat your oven, turn on stove-top burners, or set a handy timer on your microwave.
When it comes to Wi-Fi Connectivity, Thermador’s Freestanding Gas Range with Star® Burner is a model that continues to exceed client expectations. While many people are turning to quick and healthy meal kits for dinner, the convenience of takeout is still a temptation. This results from the prep time of meal kits surpassing that of fast food. However, by utilizing an oven’s Wi-Fi Connectivity feature, the time required for food preparation is more comparable by having the oven already pre-heated upon arrival home.
Swipe Right to Turn Up the Heat
Finally, a swipe that is guaranteed to impress. Unlike annoying matchmaker apps, this new design, offered by some of the industry’s top appliance brands, promises to deliver the heat at the touch of a finger.
As more and more manufacturers move away from traditional knobs and handles, finger-activated touch and swipe controls are being introduced. These sensors work through electromagnetic heat, and allow you to easily turn on your range as well as control the temperature of the flames with a touch or a swipe.
Popular amongst our appliances is Miele’s Built-In Electric Cooktop. Truly representative of the contemporary aesthetic, this appliance features a 3D glass design, high-impact Ceran glass surface, and a stainless steel frame. Additionally, this model helps prevent accidents such as bumping into the appliance’s knobs or having clothing get caught on them.
REFRIGERATION

One of the largest appliances found in the kitchen, the refrigerator is arguably going through one of the largest changes over the next year. While large in size, refrigerators are also colossal in terms of overall utility.
Sure, your average refrigerator will still do a great job at keeping your food freshly chilled. However, more savvy consumers are looking to the fridge to fulfill more than just basic needs.
Before elaborating on the aesthetics of these new refrigerators, let’s talk about their functionality. Notice that many 2022 models sport multi-level food zones that successfully compartmentalize the variety of food you keep on hand. One of the original examples of this technology was released by Signature Kitchen Suite. Their 24-inch Undercounter Convertible Refrigerator/Freezer Drawers, like many other new models, is capable of an incredible level of specificity. Taking into account such detail, some designated food zones are only suited for a select few ingredients!
Aesthetically speaking, expect more refrigerator manufacturers to transition away from traditional stainless steel. However, the complete elimination of this design feature is not likely as it is still a very functional and popular option.
Another trend that is surfacing is the elimination of door handles on refrigerators. However, even more exciting are the new models that are replacing these handles with smart technology. The purpose behind this development is to help streamline overall culinary processes.
As far as refrigerator panels are concerned, many models will be introduced with glass panels. These glass panels will be used for both drawers and doors. Additionally, a variety of color combinations will soon be available for each refrigerator. As a result, clients will be able to purchase a refrigerator that matches their distinct taste.
PERSONALIZATION

Extremely anticipated is the additional customization options that appliances are starting to offer. While this has been underway for quite some time in the custom category, more suppliers and manufacturers are following suit. Accent islands might soon become a thing of the past, making way for accent appliances.
Just imagine a splash of color on your new gas range that will instantly upgrade the character of your kitchen. Not only can this be a fun portion of the initial design process, but it allows the end user the ability to create and design a luxury appliance all their own.
Bluestar is an incredibly popular brand when it comes to the personalization of appliances. A Build-A-Bear Workshop of kitchen appliances, clients are able to customize the base color, trim color, and other features associated with each category of appliance. Bluestar staples in our showroom include both Nova Series and Platinum Series Ranges.
